I became a certified Acceptance and Integration Training® practitioner because I have witnessed the profound impact it has had in my life and in the lives of others in healing, positive growth, feelings of wholeness, and emotional freedom.

Developed by Melanie McGhee in Maryville, TN, Acceptance and Integration Training® is an efficient leading edge model of intervention used by social workers, therapists, coaches, spiritual directors and others to aid others in healing from past traumas, hurts and struggles resulting from life’s inevitably painful experiences.  AAIT™ is based on 6 principles that lead to emotional and spiritual wellness.

Yin/Yang

1 — The true self is not encumbered by the limitations associated with a narrative.  The true self is a being.

In sessions with you this means you are bigger than the sum of your story. I don’t judge or offer “shoulds”.

2 — Taking responsibility for and tending to our inner state is the source of our freedom.

You’ll learn tools to manage stress, strong emotions and doubts to empower your healing in and out of your time with me.

3 — Self-acceptance is a means and a measure of well-being.

We will work on self-acceptance as a goal. When we learn to accept ourselves as we are we feel better, less stressed about life and relationships.

4 — Resolving reactivity reveals higher states of consciousness.

When we react to life circumstances, we are acting in response to a situation rather than creating or controlling it. We will calm your mind so you can make decisions that are best for you.

5 — Integration of two opposing states can alleviate psychological suffering.

We live in a bipolar world defined by “good and bad”. We will explore negative thoughts, and emotions with their opposites to reach a space of calm. You will learn how to do this in our sessions and at home.

6 — The non-dual states of empty consciousness are an indication and mechanism of transformation. Cultivating an awareness of these states contributes to increases in present-focused attention, empathy, self-compassion and more skillful choices.

Does your mind chatter endlessly? Do your thoughts bounce from one thing to another with all that you have to do? Together we will find a place where your mind can rest, even if for a few moments. You will also learn to do this on your own.

What happens in an AAIT™ session?

AAIT™ is not like talk therapy. We explore who you are and where you want to be in a different way. This is because of the way we work. At the beginning of our session, I will ask you for a few details of what is bothering you, or perhaps. a goal you have. We will explore it together to discover what you would like to focus on. This collaboration is very important and is the way I support you.

We will begin by focusing on breathing to allow your mind to settle. I will guide you through a process that will help you to eliminate the emotional charge that is creating your pain or holding you back. At the end of the session, I will provide you with some suggestions for ways to practice integration at home. Eventually, your home practice will become like brushing your teeth, and you will see profound results in your ability to feel confident in managing everyday life. It works!

“When we give ourselves the chance to let go of all our tension, the body’s natural capacity to heal itself can begin to work.”
